Natsu 2019 Day One Recap

There has been one day of sumo for the Natsu basho, which means each sekitori has had exactly one match. That can only mean one thing. Massive Overreactions!

J1e Toyonoshima (1-0) wins by tsukiotoshi over M17e Chiyoshoma (0-1)

Well, his luck has run out and Chiyoshoma is completely doomed to crash down into the depths of Juryo.

M16e Daishoho (1-0) wins by kimedashi over M16w Ishiura (0-1)

Daishoho will work his arm barring and holding magic to beat anyone, while Ishiura's tricks will fool no one in Makuuchi anymore.

M15e Terutsuyoshi (1-0) wins by tsukiotoshi over M15w Kotoeko (0-1)

Terutsuyoshi is too skilled and clever to lose to anyone in the lower half of the banzuke, and Kotoeko just can't compete with such craft.

M14w Enho (1-0) wins by yorikiri over M14e Tokushoryu (0-1)

Enho is even more skilled and clever, so he will never lose to anyone in Makuuchi at all! Tokushoryu does not belong at this level. (Last statement possibly not an overreaction.)

M13e Chiyomaru (1-0) wins by hatakikomi over M13w Sadanoumi (0-1)

All opponents will simply rebound and collapse against the mighty girth of the shockingly-green-mawashi-clad Chiyomaru!

M12w Yago (1-0) wins by hatakikomi over M12e Shimanoumi (0-1)

Shimanoumi's consecutive 13 wins at Juryo mean nothing in Makuuchi. Yago has refound his form from January and will dominate.

M11e Shohozan (1-0) wins by sukuinage over M11w Tochiozan (0-1)

Shohozan's intensity and strength is still enough to win despite aging. Tochiozan is desperately struggling to fight off Father Time and losing. (Possibly not an overreaction for either.)

M10w Onosho (1-0) wins by oshidashi over M10e Kagayaki (0-1)

Onosho is back on track to being a future Yokozuna. Kagayaki must completely and utterly remake his sumo against such odds.

M9w Tomokaze (1-0) wins by hatakikomi over M9e Nishikigi (0-1)

Future Yokozuna Tomokaze will never have a losing record, but will continue to shoot up to Sumo's highest rank.

M8w Asanoyama (1-0) wins by yorikiri over M8e Kaisei (0-1)

Anyone who is caught by Asanoyama's left hand grip is doomed, and he will use it repeatedly to demolish his adversaries.

M7e Shodai (1-0) wins by yorikiri over M7w Meisei (0-1)

Shodai is much too skilled to be Maegashira 7, and he will create a bloodbath in mid-Maegashira.

M6e Takarafuji (1-0) wins by oshidashi over M6w Yoshikaze (0-1)

Yoshikaze is too old for this shit.

M5w Ryuden (1-0) wins by okuridashi over M5e Myogiryu (0-1)

Ryuden has too many tricks and skills to be toppled this basho. He will simply fight back everyone until they slide out the edge of the dohyo.

M4w Abi (1-0) wins by hikiotoshi over M4e Okinoumi (0-1)

Even when he can't shove someone back at the start, Abi's dancing skills at the tawara will make him a future Yokozuna.

K1e Aoiyama (1-0) wins by oshidashi over M3w Tamawashi (0-1)

Even the strongest pushers cannot move the mighty bulk of Aoiyama, he must be victorious at Natsu!

S1w Tochinoshin (1-0) wins by yorikiri over M3e Chiyotairyu (0-1)

Tochinoshin can pick up the likes of Chiyotairyu once more. Beware of the strength of the Georgian Bear, who will defeat all comers, win the yusho, and go on to fulfill his destiny as a future Yokozuna. (Maybe only the last bit is an overreaction. Tochinoshin really does have his strength back in force.)

M2w Daieisho (1-0) wins by tsukidashi over S1e Ichinojo (0-1)

Future Yokozuna Daieisho showed that Ichinojo is back to standing upright and being merely a giant pushover.

O2e Takakeisho (1-0) wins by oshidashi over M2e Endo (0-1)

Giant, forceful shoves like the winning move against Endo will make the shin-Ozeki on the fast track to becoming a future Yokozuna.

M1w Kotoshogiku (1-0) wins by oshidashi over O1w Takayasu (0-1)

Kotoshogiku is reenergized and might return to ozeki soon. Takayasu is completely lost and will fall out of the ozeki ranks.

O1e Goeido (1-0) wins by yorikiri over M1e Hokutofuji (0-1)

Powerful, determined Goeido has come to Tokyo for Natsu, which means another yusho for the top Ozeki.

Y1w Kakuryu (1-0) wins by oshidashi over K1w Mitakeumi (0-1)

As the only Yokozuna, Kakuryu cannot help but beat anyone he faces with his steady, effective sumo.
